Intro to Batik Dyeing

Join us for a 3-hour batik dye workshop where you'll learn the basics of waxing using both the tjanting tool and brushes. We’ll begin with a practice fabric so you can get comfortable controlling wax flow, drawing simple lines, filling areas, and adding details.

Once you're ready, you’ll move on to your main silk piece (20" x 20") waxing, dyeing, and completing your artwork from start to finish. You’ll also learn how to create batik crack effects and gain a clear understanding of how the dye-bath process works. We will be dyeing just one layer of color, focusing on basic technique and control.

Your final piece will be a traditional batik silk scarf created entirely by you. This workshop welcomes all ability levels; we provide templates and easy-to-follow guidance so anyone can create a beautiful piece, even with zero experience. After the workshop, we’ll handle the unwaxing process for you and mail your finished silk scarf once it’s ready.
